Troubleshooting empty tags on cloud inventory

If you add an owner or description information to your cloud assets directly in Secfix and later notice that this information disappears, it’s due to an automatic sync process with your cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

During each sync, Secfix updates asset data based on the tags present in your cloud environment. If a tag (such as owner or description) is missing or empty in your cloud account, Secfix will overwrite any manual changes you made in Secfix with those empty values.

How to make sure your cloud tags stay updated in Secfix

Option 1 (recommended): Update Cloud Tags in Your AWS/GCP/Azure Account

  1. Log into your AWS, GCP, or Azure account.

  2. Find any cloud assets missing owner, description, or other important tags.

  3. Complete these fields directly in your cloud provider.

  4. Once completed, Secfix will sync and display this information correctly.

Follow the guide below to bulk tag your cloud assets:

Option 2 (less recommended): Manually Add Descriptions in Secfix

If you need to manage descriptions manually in Secfix and prevent them from being overwritten:

  • Instruct your DevOps or cloud management team not to use the tag SecfixDescription on those resources in your cloud environment.

  • Without this tag present, Secfix will not overwrite the description during synchronization, allowing manual entries in Secfix to remain in place.
